PROJECT № 213

Software for Automatic Chromosome Karyotyping

City: Kharkiv

Project manager: Vladyslav Shuba

Degree of project readiness: MVP

Atlas is a powerful karyotyping system that can be used with any microscope and any camera.

Designed for cytogenetic analysis of human and animal chromosomes.

ATLAS can be useful in public and private laboratories, in research institutes of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education. Revenue is planned from the sale of software subscriptions.

  1. Can you describe more about how the software system works? Is it an automated system? What are its advantages over current methodologies apart from obtaining results more quickly? Will you need regulatory approval for the system to be used for diagnostic purposes?

    1. Thank you for your interest in our project.

The program works using machine learning algorithms.

The issue of automation can be considered on 2 sides:
      1) You saved photos of metaphase from your microscope, launch ATLAS, and the next morning you will have all the photos analyzed, and you can give the results to doctors and patients.
      2) A robot is created that does everything except metaphase slides preparation. In this case, you (lab technician) need to prepare slides for microscopy, place them in a special box and turn on the system itself.

The second approach is more complex and expensive for implementation, so our team is still focused on the first option. It all depends on the size of the investment.

Advantages: the number of supported types of analysis, elimination of the human factor in the analysis process, expandable patient data and flexible reporting, improved quality of metaphases exhibiting poor morphology, and then analysis time.

Promotion in the international market may intensify after implementation in the local market when citations appear in international publications. There are also difficulties with the difference in the legislation of each individual state.
Someone just needs to pass certification in their trust institutions, and someone must also have support for the state language. The formation of license proposals for different countries requires special attention.
